The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, almost 70 years old, has been named one of the seven engineering wonders of the world. But in the summer of 2007, the bridge is scheduled to be demolished, replaced by a structure designed to withstand “a maximum credible earthquake.” An army of construction workers, engineers and scientists is working around the clock to build the new bridge.
